Jacob Hammer

Jacob Hammer is the Executive Chef of Husk Savannah, Georgia’s outpost of the famed seasonally driven, Southern restaurant from The Neighborhood Dining Group. A native of the Peach State, longtime Savannahian resident, and former Husk Savannah Executive Sous Chef, Hammer is honored to be welcomed back to the restaurant to helm the kitchen.

Taking after his father, a front of house manager and restaurant owner who always prioritized taking care of everyone around him, Hammer learned the value of respect in everything he does – whether that’s the people he works with or the ingredients he prepares. Through his mother’s love for fresh vegetables straight from the garden, he learned the beauty of simplicity in the kitchen. Upon graduating from Georgia Southern University, he studied the art of cooking both through literature and in the field, gaining practical experience to perfect his craft and find confidence in cooking.

Hammer has worked across some of the South’s most revered restaurants, including Sundae Cafe, Noble Fare, The Grey, Local 1110, and eventually Husk Savannah in 2017. While most of his career has been focused on hyper-seasonal, grassroots cuisine, in 2020, he craved a challenge and joined the luxurious JW Marriott team, where he gained vital knowledge from an international perspective and fostered his business skills.

Returning to Husk in 2024, Hammer prides himself on his strong relationships in the industry and believes that respecting and learning from each other always leads to success. The result, he says, is an unforgettable guest experience with each visit, and a sense of familiarity, with some surprise along the way.

When he is not in the kitchen, Hammer enjoys spending time with his wife and dogs, reading, playing the drums, and relaxing on the beach. He also likes to visit other local Savannah restaurants in his free time, socializing with his fellow chefs and supporting their businesses.
